【摘要】:Thisspecificationcoverstheestablishmentofrequirementsofautomotivefuelsforgroundvehiclesequippedwithspark-ignitionengines.Thisspecificationdescribesvariouscharacteristicsofautomotivefuelsforuseoverawiderangeofoperatingconditions.Itprovidesforavariationofthevolatilityandwatertoleranceofautomotivefuelinaccordancewithseasonalclimaticchangesatthelocalitywherethefuelisused.FortheperiodMay1throughSept.15,themaximumvaporpressurelimitsissuedbytheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA)arespecifiedforeachgeographicalareaexceptAlaskaandHawaii.VariationoftheantiknockindexwithseasonalclimaticchangesandaltitudeisdiscussedinAppendixX1.Thisspecificationneithernecessarilyincludesalltypesoffuelsthataresatisfactoryforautomotivevehicles,nornecessarilyexcludesfuelsthatcanperformunsatisfactorilyundercertainoperatingconditionsorincertainequipment.ThesignificanceofeachofthepropertiesofthisspecificationisshowninAppendixX1.Thespark-ignitionenginefuelscoveredinthisspecificationaregasolineanditsblendswithoxygenates,suchasalcoholsandethers.Thisspecificationdoesnotapplytofuelsthatcontainanoxygenateastheprimarycomponent,suchasFuelMethanol(M85).Theconcentrationsandtypesofoxygenatesarenotspecificallylimitedinthisspecification.However,dependingonoxygenatetype,asoxygenatecontentincreasesabovesomethresholdlevel,thelikelihoodforvehicleproblemsalsoincreases.Thecompositionofbothunleadedandleadedfuelislimitedbyeconomic,legal,andtechnicalconsideration,buttheirproperties,includingvolatility,aredefinedbythisspecification.Inaddition,thecompositionofunleadedfuelissubjecttotherules,regulations,andCleanAirActwaiversoftheU.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA).Withregardtofuelproperties,includingvolatility,thisspecificationcanbemoreorlessrestrictivethantheEPArules,regulations,andwaivers.RefertoAppendixX3fordiscussionsofEPArulesrelatingtofuelvolatility,leadandphosphorouscontents,depositcontroladditivecertification,anduseofoxygenatesinblendswithunleadedgasoline.ContacttheEPAforthelatestversionsoftherulesandadditionalrequirements.Thisspecificationdoesnotaddresstheemissioncharacteristicsofreformulatedspark-ignitionenginefuel.Reformulatedspark-ignitionenginefuelisrequiredinsomeareastoloweremissionsfromautomotivevehicles,anditscharacteristicsaredescribedintheresearchreportonreformulatedspark-ignitionenginefuel.However,inadditiontothelegalrequirementsfoundinthisresearchreport,reformulatedspark-ignitionenginefuelshouldmeettheperformancerequirementsfoundinthisspecification.Thisspecificationrepresentsadescriptionofautomotivefuelasofthedateofpublication.Thespecificationisundercontinuousreview,whichcanresultinrevisionsbasedonchangesinfuel,automotiverequirements,ortestmethods,oracombinationthereof.Allusersofthisspecification,therefore,shouldrefertothelatestedition.Note1-IfthereisanydoubtastothelatesteditionofSpecificationD4814,contactASTMInternationalHeadquarters.Testsapplicabletogasolinearenotnecessarilyapplicabletoitsblendswithoxygenates.Consequently,thetypeoffuelunderconsiderationmustfirstbeidentifiedinordertoselectapplicabletests.
